The Armenian government has approved a draft law regulating the cryptocurrency market, triggering backlash from the country’s Web3 community. Web3 Armenia Foundation, a blockchain-focused non-profit, is urging lawmakers to reject the proposal, arguing that it threatens digital sovereignty, financial freedom, and blockchain innovation.
Proposed by the Central Bank of Armenia, the law introduces stricter rules on crypto transactions and blockchain businesses. Critics argue that these regulations primarily serve big banks, rather than the people.
The organization is calling on the National Assembly to reject the bill, arguing that it prioritizes corporate interests over the people. They’ve even offered free consultations to lawmakers willing to discuss a more balanced approach.
