Web3 is evolving at lightning speed. With new technologies, developer trends, and skills emerging faster than ever, staying ahead is key. Yuriy Kovalchuk, a Web3 engineer at Forte Group and a lecturer at Set University, is keeping a close eye on these shifts. In this interview, he shares his thoughts on what’s driving the future of Web3 and what developers need to be prepared for.
Web3 has completely transformed in just five years. From DeFi being a mystery to a core part of the ecosystem, things have changed fast. Yuriy outlines some of the most significant shifts:
Right now, Solana has the edge in terms of speed and low fees. With its high throughput, it can handle thousands of transactions per second without extra layers. But Ethereum is pushing ahead with decentralization and security, which will make it more reliable in the long run. Upcoming updates to Ethereum will close the gap in performance and cost.
One of the most common mistakes in Web3? Mishandling private keys. Many users and developers fail to use hardware wallets or implement additional signature checks, which leads to hacks and stolen assets. Proper management of smart contract access is also crucial to avoid vulnerabilities.
Yuriy doesn’t think Web3 needs a rebrand. Its image remains positive. However, he believes we should reconsider the way we talk about cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Right now, cryptocurrencies are often linked to speculation and high risks, and blockchain is often confusing. To improve perceptions, we need to stress that Web3 is a new internet paradigm where users truly own their data and assets, with blockchain as the technology supporting it.
The upcoming Pectra Hard Fork in February will bring key updates:
Meme coins are all the rage, but they come with risks. Many of them have little value and could create a bubble. But Yuriy believes the solution isn’t banning them. Instead, we need to focus on educating people about quality projects and the importance of informed investments over short-term speculation.
Meme coins, according to Yuriy, don’t destroy trust in Web3. They can build communities and attract attention when done right. The real challenge is distinguishing between legit projects and scams. As always, the best advice is to Do Your Own Research (DYOR).
Web3 is in constant flux, with key developments in scalability, security, and developer opportunities shaping its future. To thrive in Web3, developers must embrace continuous learning, adapt to new technologies, and stay on top of evolving trends. It’s not just about cryptocurrencies anymore — Web3 represents a new era of the internet.
